#15 Men's Golf to Compete in Nation's Elite Event
Oct. 23, 2008
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The #15 Indiana University men's golf team is set to play in the nation's top fall tournament, the Isleworth UCF Collegiate. The competition will begin on Sunday, Oct. 26 and run through Tuesday, Oct. 27 with 18 holes being played each day.
The tournament, played at the Isleworth Golf & Country Club, annually attracts an impressive field, filled with the best teams in the country. This year's installment is no different. The three-day, three-round event includes eight of the top-10 squads in the nation.
Thirteen of the 18 teams in this year's event are ranked in the top-30 nationally, including the Hoosiers. PGA stars Charles Howell III, Mark O'Meara, John Cook, Lee Janzen and Tiger Woods have been seen spectating in years past.
Isleworth is consistently ranked the longest and toughest course in the state by the Florida State Golf Association (FSGA), proving to challenge the NCAA's best players. From its back tees, dubbed the Tiger Tees, Isleworth measures 7,544 yards with a slope of 142 and a rating of 77.5. Originally designed by Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay with a re-design by Steve Smyers in 2003, Isleworth's course demands precise drives and accurate short game shots.
Indiana is in the first grouping of the day, teeing off the same time as Texas Tech and UCLA. Drew Allenspach, IU's No. 5 golfer will be the first to start for Indiana at 8 a.m. The rest of the Hoosier lineup includes Jorge Campillo (No. 1), Alex Martin (No. 2), Seth Brandon (No. 3) and David Erdy (No.4).
Live scoring for the event will be available at www.golfstat.com. For more information about the event, visit the official website at www.isleworthcollegiate.com.
