Wheatcroft Captures 2010 PGA TOUR Card (Video Highlights Added)
Oct. 25, 2009
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Former Indiana University golfer Steve Wheatcroft had a big day on Sunday, earning his 2010 PGA TOUR card. Wheatcroft was one of 25 Nationwide Tour players to secure their card by finishing among the year's top-25 money winners.
The two-time All-Big Ten selection played at IU from 1998-2001. Wheatcroft finished 20th in Nationwide money list with eight top-25 showings.
"To start the year as badly as I did and be able to come back and make it in the top-25 is exciting," said Wheatcroft. "I made some change about mid-way through the year and changes are designed so you can get in contention and to be put under pressure like today. Had I not made those changes I wouldn't be here today. And they withstood the pressure of needing to place high."

Wheatcroft tied for third in the final Nationwide event of the year.
"Congratulations to these 25 wonderful players who will be joining the PGA TOUR in January," said Nationwide Tour president Bill Calfee. "This is the 20th year we have graduated a group of players to the PGA TOUR. We thank this group for the great golf and many exciting finishes they have given us on the Nationwide Tour this year. We look forward to following their progress on TOUR next year and watching them add to the successes and contributions of their fellow graduates Jim Furyk, Stewart Cink, David Toms, Tom Lehman, Zach Johnson, Lucas Glover, among others."
Immediately after play fans were invited to join Tour officials, Nationwide Insurance representatives and Daniel Island personnel at the PGA TOUR Card Ceremony honoring "The 25".
As part of a new partnership with the Nationwide Tour, Tiffany & Co. was on site Sunday to hand engrave the Nationwide Tour Championship at Daniel Island trophy. Each player who finished in "The 25" received a personalized hand-engraved money clip with his 2010 PGA TOUR member card enclosed. Michael Sim received a Tiffany crystal award in recognition of his "Battlefield Promotion" to the PGA TOUR which he achieved in August.
The Card Ceremony will be featured in the final episode of "Quest for the Card: Inside the Nationwide Tour", which will air five times on Golf Channel beginning Oct. 28th at 7:30 p.m. ET.
The Nationwide Tour Championship at Daniel Island featured the top-60 money winners through last week's final full-field event of the year, the Miccosukee Championship in Miami. The players who finished 26-60 on the final money list are fully exempt on the Nationwide Tour in 2010, in the event they do not secure their PGA TOUR card via the PGA TOUR Qualifying Tournament in early December. Those who finished 26-40 on the money list are exempt into the Finals of the Qualifying Tournament.
