October 31, 1998 HOOSIERS CONTINUE TO STRUGGLE AT NELSON
Stanford, Calif., The IU men's golf team continued their dismal play in California as they ended the second round of the Nelson Intercollegiate tied for 15th place. The Hoosiers fired a team score of 301 today, putting their total at 604 for the tournament, and 33 strokes behind the leader North Carolina State 571 (287-284).
Luke Donald of Northwestern is the leader of the tournament. Donald fired an even par round of 71 today to give him a two-day total of 138 (67-71). Knut Ekjord 139(70-69) of Colorado, Joel Kribel 139(67-72) of Stanford, and James Bunch 139(68-71) of North Carolina State are all one stroke back of Donald. Tied for 54th place, Steve Wheatcroft 150 (76-74) and Corey Sullivan 150 (74-76) are the Hoosiers top golfers.
The tournament will conclude tomorrow with the final 18 holes to begin with shotgun start at 8:30 am.
