WIRE TO WIRE WIN FOR RANDY LEEN;IU FINISHES 7th TO END FALL SEASON

PALO ALTO, Calif. - Indiana senior Randy Leen opened up the Nelson with a tournament-low 68 and then never looked back. The Dayton, Ohio, native followed the first round with back-to-back 71s, giving him a three round total of 210, strong enough to squeak out a one stroke victory over Georgia Tech's Matt Kuchar and Louisiana State's Adam Manuel.

Leen entered the final round with a one stroke lead over Manuel and a two stroke lead over his familiar rival, Kuchar. While Manuel kept pace with Leen, Kuchar inched one stroke closer with a 70 on the final round. The victory is a bit of sweet revenge for Leen as he was knocked out of the 1997 U.S. Amateur in the semifinal round by Kuchar over the summer. Kuchar was later crowned champion.

The Indiana team remained consistent over the course of the tournament, carding rounds of 293, 295, and 297. The squad finished in seventh place, 25 strokes behind the tournament medalist, Colorado State. Of the six teams that finished ahead of the Hoosiers, only one of them, Tulsa, was not ranked in the top 25.

Individually, Chick Linski posted his second top 20 performance of the season (T19) and Brent Landry, after a tie for 102nd at Persimmon Ridge, rebounded nicely with a tie for 50th.
