KANSAS JUNIOR STAR SIGNS TO PLAY GOLF AT IU

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana University head men's golf coach Mike Mayer announced today that John Kirk Wood has signed a national letter of intent to play golf for the Hoosiers beginning in the fall of 2000.

Wood, a senior at Rockhurst High School in Kansas City, Mo., led his high school team to the 1998 and 199 Missouri Class 4A State Championships, earning first-team all-State honors last season. He will captain the squad this spring in its quest for a third straight title.

"Kirk is an outstanding individual and we look forward to welcoming him as a Hoosier," Mayer said. "His junior record in Missouri and Kansas is second-to-none. He has a tremendous amount of national experience and will be an excellent addition to our program."

Wood, who resides in Leawood, Kan., is the 1998 Kansas Junior Amateur Champion and the 1999 runner-up. He has participated in numerous American Junior Golf Association championships, finishing 12th this past summer at an AJGA event at English Turn Golf Club in New Orleans. Wood qualified for the 1998 USGA National Junior Championship, advancing to match play before bowing out in the second round.
