HOOSIER GOLF TEAM SIGNS POLO ALL-AMERICAN

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - IU men's golf coach Mike Mayer announced today that Ryan Cassidy, a 1998 Polo honorable mention All-American, has signed a national letter of intent to play golf at Indiana University.

Cassidy, a senior at Buffalo Grove High School in Arlington Heights, Ill., will join the Hoosier squad beginning in the fall of 2000. "We are thrilled that Ryan has decided to become a Hoosier," Mayer said. "Ryan is an outstanding player who will bring a vast amount of national experience to our program."

Cassidy won the 1998 Pepsi Little People's Championship and the 1998 Chick Evans Junior Championship on his way to honorable mention All-America honors. He has played extensively on the American Junior Golf Association circuit this past year with a 10th-place finish in the AJGA Odyssey Junior Classic. Cassidy also participated in the 1999 United State Junior Amateur Championship.

"Ryan has been the top high school player in Illinois for the last two years," Mayer said. "He is a great ball striker with an outstanding golf swing. He has a passion for the game and I feel he has a great future ahead of him at IU."
