Three Hoosiers Headed to Final Stage at Q-School

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Former Hoosier standouts Jeff Overton (2002-05), Steve Wheatcroft (1998-01) and Dan Olsen (1986-89) advanced through the second stage at Q-School, the PGA Tour's National Qualifying Tournament, on Saturday afternoon. Each member of the trio finished in the top 12 at their respective playing sites to move on to the final stage.
Overton responded after a 2-over-par 74 in round two with a 2-under 70 in the final round at Bayonet Golf Course in Seaside, Calif. The Evansville, Ind., finished the four rounds at 2-under 286 (71-71-74-70) to finish in a tie for ninth place. The top 19 finishers plus ties were eligible to advance to the final stage. Steven Alker (70-70-69) earned first place with a 7-under 281 (70-70-69-72).
At Lake Jovita Country Club in Dade City, Fla., Wheatcroft closed with an even-par 72 to corral a tie for 12th. Wheatcroft also shot 72 in round two and added a pair of 69s in the first and third rounds for a 6-under 282 four-round total. The top 18 golfers plus ties advanced to the final stage. Tommy Tolles captured medalist honors at the site with an 18-under 270 (67-68-64-71).
Olsen capped off a string of 72s with a 1-under 71 on the final 18 at Oak Valley Golf Club in Beaumont, Calif. The 2004 PGA Tour member tied for sixth place at 287 with the top 19 plus ties moving on to the final stage. Jay Don Blake (70-76-71-64), Jeremy Anderson (72-69-72-68) and Mike Perez (71-72-71-67) shared the top spot at Oak Valley.
The final stage of qualifying will take place on Wednesday-Monday, Nov. 30-Dec. 5 at Panther Lake Course and Crooked Cat Course in Winter Garden, Fla.
In addition to the aforementioned trio, former Hoosier Randy Leen (1995-98) participated at the second stage qualifier on Nov. 9-12. Playing Hombre Golf Club in Panama City Beach, Fla., Leen finished in a tie for 29th at 290 (72-77-70-71).
