Dec. 22, 2010
CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. -
Indiana sophomore Brant Peaper kicked off his winter break in style by registering a second place finish at the prestigious Dixie Amateur Championship in Coral Springs, Fla. on Tuesday.
The Tequesta, Fla. native finished 11-under (68-69-68--205) for the tournament, which was shortened to three rounds due to weather. The event was played at Heron Bay GC and Inverarry GC.
Peaper was paired with the world's number one ranked amateur and eventual winner, Peter Uihlein, in the final round. Uihlein, a junior at Oklahoma State, posted a final round 66 to win the event by two strokes.
The tournament field is expected to be ranked in the top 12 in the world when the new rankings are released. Peaper, coming off a solid fall season, was one of only two players in the talented field to put together three sub-70 rounds.
Indiana senior Ren Han finished with a two-round total of 147 and missed the cut by three shots. Sophomores John Beringer (79-72--151) and Corey Ziedonis (79-80--159) also competed in the event and missed the cut.
Beringer, Peaper, and Han will also be competing in the New Year's Invitational. They will be joined in the field by junior David Erdy, sophomores Michael McGee and Kyle Perry, as well as freshman David Mills. The four round, 72-hole event is held at St. Petersburg Country Club on January 6-9. Notable past champions of the event include former Hoosier Jeff Overton, Len Mattiace, Brandt Snedeker, and Ryuji Imada.
