Hoosiers Open Spring Season with SLU
March 21, 2013
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Work on the Indiana men's soccer team's NCAA title defense begins this Saturday as the squad opens its 2013 spring season with a matchup against the Saint Louis Billikens in Springfield, Ill.
Game time is slated for 7 p.m. ET at Glenwood High School. This is the second year of this event, which serves as a fundraiser for Kailey's Krew. Kailey's Krew is a nonprofit organization started in 2011 to honor Kailey Wilmarth, who lost her battle with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in May 2011. Kailey is the younger sister of former Hoosier soccer player Neil Wilmarth.
Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students (K-12) and can be purchased at the gate.
Last year's meeting between the two schools resulted in a 3-2 win for Indiana, with goals from A.J. Corrado, Kyle Sparks and Caleb Konstanski. The teams also met in the 2012 regular season opener, a 2-1 victory for Indiana in St. Louis.
Saturday's game kicks off a five-match spring slate for the Hoosiers. IU will return to Jerry Yeagley Field at Armstrong Stadium for the first time since its championship run on March 28 when it plays host to Lindsey Wilson College at 7:30 p.m. ET.
The Hoosiers will then play host to Xavier on Friday, April 5 at 7:30 p.m. ET as part of the annual coaches symposium. These two teams last matched up in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, a 4-1 victory for the Hoosiers.
After a trip to Fort Wayne on April 13 to take on the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame (5 p.m. ET), Indiana will wrap up the spring slate with its annual meeting with the U-20 Mexican National Team on Sunday, April 28 at 2 p.m. ET. The Hoosiers will be facing a Mexico squad that is coming off a CONCACAF championship earlier this spring.
