April 13, 2013
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Indiana men's soccer team picked up its first win of the 2013 spring season as second-half goals from Tanner Thompson, A.J. Corrado and Nikita Kotlov gave the Hoosiers a 3-2 win over Notre Dame at the Fort Wayne Sport Club in Fort Wayne, Ind. as part of the National Soccer Festival.
Indiana won its annual spring meeting against the Fighting Irish for the second-straight season thanks to some second-half heroics. Notre Dame took a 1-0 lead with four minutes left in the first half as Patrick Hodan knocked in a goal off the far post from about 20 yards out.
The Hoosiers came right out after the halftime break and evened things up in the 46th minute as Thompson shot home a pass from Dylan Mares that came across the box from the endline. Less than five minutes later Notre Dame was back on top 2-1 as Harrison Shipp scored from the top of the box, sending in a low shot to the back post.
With 28 minutes left on the clock it was Corrado that brought IU back even with the Fighting Irish, scoring from 18 yards out to the near post. The game remained knotted at 2-all until Kotlov slotted the ball past the goalkeeper from close range with six minutes remaining in the match.
Indiana will wrap its 2013 spring slate on Sunday, April 28 as it plays host to the U-20 Mexican National Team at Armstrong Stadium. Game time is 2 p.m. and tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster.com or by calling the IU Ticket Office at 866-IUSPORTS.
