Fives Joins Indiana Soccer Program
May 30, 2014
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana University head men's soccer coach Todd Yeagley announced today that defender Phil Fives (Pittsburgh, Pa.) will join the program starting this fall for his junior season.
"We are very happy to have Phil join our team," Yeagley said. "Phil is a very technical player who can play in midfield or as an outside back. His two years of college experience will be important to help our team fill key roles lost to graduation. His positive attitude and hard working mentality fits in very well with our returning squad."
Fives comes to Indiana from Akron where he appeared in 16 matches over his first two seasons. As a freshman he made nine appearances with four starts, recording assists against USF and Hartwick, while notching his first career goal at Northern Illinois.
As a sophomore in 2013 he played in seven matches, including postseason contests vs. West Virginia, Western Michigan and Marquette.
Hailing from North Allegheny High School in Pittsburgh, Fives earned all-state honors as a senior with 11 goals and 18 assists. He was named MVP of the WPIAL all-star game and played club soccer with the Cleveland Internationals.
