BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -
The 2012 Indiana men's soccer season officially got underway Wednesday with a two-mile run and a pair of workouts.
The Hoosiers have less than a week to prepare for their first exhibition match, scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 14 at 7:30 p.m. against UIC on Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium. The match against the Flames is one of two preseason tune-ups.
Indiana will wrap up exhibition play on Saturday, Aug. 18, against professional side Chivas de Guadalajara as part of the Shindigz National Soccer Festival in Fort Wayne. Match time is 7 p.m. ET and the game will be shown live on Fox Soccer Channel.
The Hoosiers return eight starters from last year's squad that went 13-4-5 and advanced to the round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament, falling to eventual national champion North Carolina in overtime. The Hoosiers have several holes to fill, most notably on the defensive side as they must replace four-year starting center back Tommy Meyer and NSCAA All-American left back Chris Estridge. Both were selected in the 2012 Major League Soccer Draft.
