Men's Soccer Hits Field for First Workout
Aug 14, 2013
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The reigning NCAA Champion Indiana men's soccer team took to the field for the first time Wednesday in preparation for the 2013 season, which kicks off in less than two weeks.
After a two-mile fitness test in the morning, the team got after it with a spirited practice focusing on technical work. After a mid-day break, the squad hit the field again at 4 p.m. for its second practice of the day. After some small-sided games, it was an 11 v 11 matchup, throwing the team to the fire as they have just one week to prepare for preseason matches against No. 12 Marquette and No. 4 North Carolina.
The team will alternate between single and double practice days leading up to the National Soccer Festival, Aug. 22 and 24 in Fort Wayne, Ind. The Hoosiers' preseason will feature matches against the Golden Eagles on Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. and the Tar Heels on Aug. 24 at 7 p.m.
The regular season officially kicks off with the annual adidas/IU Credit Union Classic, Aug. 30 and Sept. 1 on Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium. The Hoosiers open vs. SMU on Aug. 30 at 7:30 p.m., and will face the No. 9 UCLA Bruins on Sept. 1 at 2 p.m. That match has been designated as "Fill The Bill" where the Hoosiers will try to break their attendance record of 7.423 set against UCLA in 2007.
