HOOSIERS CONCLUDE EXHIBITION SCHEDULE AT CLEMSON
August 27, 1999
The Indiana soccer team finishes its exhibition schedule Saturday at Clemson in a rematch of last year's exciting national quarterfinal game.
In that game last December, which propelled the Hoosiers to the national championship, Aleksey Korol scored twice to lead IU to a 2-1 victory.
"That was a great game for us and for college soccer," Indiana head coach Jerry Yeagley said. "But this is a new year and its still the exhibition season."
Indiana has split its first two preseason contests as they lost 3-2 at Saint Louis last Saturday and then defeated IUPUI 1-0 Wednesday.
"I saw a lot of improvement from the Saint Louis game to the IUPUI game," Yeagley said. "I would like to see that again in this game. We always want to win games but we want to keep everyone healthy and get ready for the season-opener."
Korol, who has missed the first two exhibition games, will play the Clemson game. He has suffered from an ankle injury.
The Hoosiers begin their regular season next weekend with the 17th annual
adidas/IU Credit Union Classic Sept. 3-5. This year's tournament features
four teams ranked in the top 20 in the host Indiana Hoosiers, Maryland,
Butler and St. Louis.
