No. 1 INDIANA WINS OVER No. 2 MARYLAND
September 3, 1999 Bloomington, Ind.--The No. 1 ranked Indiana Hoosiers prevailed over No. 2 ranked Maryland tonight at the adidas/IU Credit Union Classic 1-0 in the first ever matchup between the two schools.
Although Maryland outshot Indiana 13-6 and held an 11-2 edge in corner kicks, the Hoosiers managed to score the only goal in front of 4,726 fans, the sixth highest crowd at Bill Armstrong Stadium.
In the first period, senior forward Aleksey Korol drove to the goal box and went one-on-one with Terrapin defender Beckett Hollenbach. Korol turned to his right and kicked the ball into the left corner of the net to score his first goal of the season at 21:08.
Maryland had there chances on the night as Taylor Twellman had five shots and A.J. Herrera had three, but they could not find the net.
The adidas/IU Credit continues on Sunday, Sept. 5 at 12 p.m. as Butler
plays Maryland. The second game features Indiana against St. Louis.
