TOP-RANKED HOOSIERS DEFEAT FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL 6-0
Dallas, Texas -- The top-ranked Indiana soccer team defeated
Florida International 6-0 as Aleksey Korol scored two goals and
assisted on two others to lead the Hoosiers.
Head coach Jerry Yeagley moved Korol back to his usual forward
position tonight and the move paid dividends as the Hoosiers
scored three times in the first 15 minutes and four times in
the first half.
"The key to our attack was Aleksey getting behind their
defense and creating opportunities," Yeagley said. "He
did a good job of finishing once he got the ball as well."
Dema Kovalenko scored the first goal on an assist from Korol
but then he added his first goal. He stole the ball from a FIU
defender, split through two others and converted a shot from
16 yards out. Lazo Alavanja then scored the thrid goal of the
Korol finished the first half scoring as he coverted a nice pass
from Kovalenko to make it 4-0. Ryan Mack and Alavanja scored
goals in the second half.
"It's about time I contribute to the offense," Korol
said. "I love playing forward."
The Hoosiers play host SMU Saturday night
