Kyle Hastings is in his first season as a volunteer assistant coach for Indiana.
Hastings came to Indiana from Milford High School in Milford, Del., where he served as an assistant coach from 2004-06. Hastings helped Milford produce one team conference championship, six individual conference champions and two state champion swimmers during his tenure. He also developed the strength and conditioning program and was responsible for student-athletes' rehabilitation programs at Milford.
Hastings also served as the head coach for the University of Maryland's club swim team in 2005, helping the men's and women's teams to regional championships and a combined championship with a record of 8-1. Hastings furthered his education while working with Milford and the Terrapins' club squad, earning a master's degree from Maryland in music in 2006.
Prior to his arrival in Maryland, Hastings was head coach of the Ocean Pines swim team in Ocean Pines, Md., in 2002, when the team finished third in its league championship meet, good for its best finish in club history. Hastings was the head coach of the Delaware Tech Summer Swim men's team from 1999-2001, leading the 14-and-under men's team to the elite high point age group award.
Hastings swam for West Virginia Wesleyan College for one season, earning a bachelor's degree in music from the school in 2003.
