Kyle Hastings is in his second season at Indiana and his first as assistant coach for men's and women's swimming. Hastings' primary focus at Indiana will be with the sprint group.
At Indiana Hastings has introduced a unique shoulder-driven technique for the team. He joins the IU staff full time after serving as a volunteer assistant for the 2012-13 season. During that time while working with the sprinters the Hoosiers set new school marks in men's 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle relay, 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay. Hastings was also a volunteer member of the staff in 2006-07. With his mentoring Indiana finished second at the 2013 Big Ten Championships and posted a ninth-place finish at the NCAA Championships, the highest finish for the Hoosiers since 1980.
Prior to his return to Bloomington in 2012, Hastings was associate head coach at Metro Aquatic Club in Florida (2007-10, 2011-12). While at MAC he helped coach two Olympians, five Olympic Trials qualifiers, five senior nationals competitors and 10 summer junior nationals qualifiers. From July 2010-11 Hastings was head coach at Club Seminole and a volunteer coach at Florida State.
In 2009 Hastings served as a coaching staff member for the Suriname National Team. Prior to that he spent the 2007-08 season as assistant coach at Florida International. Hastings also has coaching experience at Belen Jesuit High School (Florida) and Milford High School (Delaware).
Hastings is a 2003 graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan and earned a master's degree from the University of Maryland in 2006.
