JUNIOR YEAR (2008-09)
Set a career best of 20.03 in the 50 freestyle at the Last Chance Meet in Bloomington ... his lead-off split of 45.26 on the 400 free relay at Purdue was a career best ... touched the wall in 50.63 for a career best and a seventh-place finish in the 100 backstroke in a double dual with Michigan and Tennessee ... also posted a season-best time of 50.75 in the 100 butterfly to finish 11th ... eighth in the 100 back in the dual meet win over Purdue ... 11th in the 200 butterfly with a season-best time of 1:52.90 at the Hoosierland Invitational.
SOPHOMORE YEAR (2007-08)
Set career marks in the 50 free (20.46-28th), 100 fly (50.02-31st) and 100 free (45.58-35th) at the Big Ten Championships ... competed in the 50 free in a dual meet with Purdue ... eighth in the 200 freestyle and 50 freestyle at Michigan ... sixth in the 50 free and eighth in the 100 fly in a dual meet victory at Kentucky ... swam the bonus final of the 50 freestyle (20th), 100 freestyle (18th), 100 butterfly (18th) and the consolation final of the 200 butterfly (13th) at the Hoosierland Open ... also swam anchor leg on the 200 medley relay team which finished third at the meet ... 10th in the 50 freestyle and 12th in the 100 freestyle against No. 1 Texas and No. 5 Michigan ... fifth in the 50 free to help lead IU to victory at Northwestern ... opened the season sixth in the 50-yard freestyle and seventh in the 100-yard freestyle at Missouri ... seventh in the 50-meter free at the USA Swimming Sectionals.
FRESHMAN YEAR (2006-07)
Swam a season-best time of 20.94 in the prelims of the 50 freestyle at the Big Ten Championship ... also competed in the 100 (51.07) and 200 butterfly (1:53.80) ... season-best time of 49.51 in the 100-freestyle came on the lead-off leg of the 400 free relay vs. Purdue ... placed seventh in the 200 butterfly at the IU Open (1:59.44) ... eighth in the 100 butterfly in dual meets vs. Kentucky (56.08) and Arizona State (56.67).
An 11-time All-American for Lakeville North High School, earning at least one nod in each of his four years ... earned the distinction in the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle relay and 400-yard freestyle relay as a senior in 2006 ... led Lakeville North to the state Class AA title in 2006, winning the 100 fly, 200 free relay and 400 free relay and finishing second in the 50 free ... also helped Lakeville North to a state runner-up finish in 2005 and third-place finishes in 2003 and 2004 ... won his first state title in the 200 free relay in 2005 ... took All-America honors in the 200 free relay and 400 free relay three times each ... was also an All-American in the 200-yard freestyle during his career, taking the honor as a junior ... turned in the third-best high school time in the nation in the 50 free (20.56) in 2006 ... that time was also the third-best in Minnesota state meet history ... 13-time all-state selection ... two-time team MVP ... also swam for Foxjet Swim Club ... son of Steve and Patti Wetzel ... brother, Scott, was also a high school All-American and swam at Indiana for a year before becoming a team manager.
