No. 20 Hoosiers Fall Short at No 12 Ohio State, 224-74

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Indiana men's swimming and diving team tallied seven second-place finishes on the afternoon but came up short in a dual meet with No. 12 Ohio State, falling 224-74 at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion in Columbus, Ohio Saturday afternoon.
The meet opened with the 200 medley relay as Doug Spraul, Aaron Opell, Bader Al-Muhana and Bryan Chovanec combined for a time of 1:33.33 to finish fourth. Illya Larin was the top Hoosier finisher in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a fifth-place time of 9:31.43. Brenden Butler was seventh (9:36.07) and Bart Ginocchio eighth (9:37.87-season best). Larin also finished fourth in the 500-yard freestyle (4:37.26), with Tyler Shedron sixth (4:47.92) and Titus Knight seventh (4:50.79).
Knight's time of 1:38.96 was good for second in the 200 free, with Bryant Honsa touching the wall in 1:43.57, good for fifth. Knight also took fourth in the 100 free (45.95), with Shedron sixth (46.76-season best) and Ante Zoricic seventh (47.61).
Spraul took second in the 200 backstroke, touching the wall in 1:49.08. Kevin Happ was sixth (1:53.81-season best) and Austin Steel seventh (1:56.97). Spraul was a third-place finisher in the 100-yard backstroke (51.41), followed by Happ in sixth (52.17-season best).
Opell was a fifth-place finisher in the 100-yard breaststroke (58.43), as Butler took sixth (59.75) and Sam Trahin seventh (1:01.85). The Hoosiers followed the same order in the 200 breaststroke with Opell in fifth (2:07.29), with Butler sixth (2:10.90) and Trahin seventh (2:15.61).
Shedron placed fourth in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:50.52, with Jon Hueni sixth (1:54.56) and Tim Blue seventh (1:54.68).
Zoricic posted a second-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.86, followed by Chovanec in fourth (21.03) and Sean Ransenberg sixth (21.39-season best).
Blue was a second-place finisher in the 100-yard butterfly (51.20), followed closely by Al-Muhana in 51.79. Hueni came in fourth at 52.21, with Spraul fifth (54.16).
Johnson posted a second-place finish in the 3-meter springboard competition with a score of 305.18. Nees was fourth (287.10) and Piercy fifth (277.05).
Happ, Opell, Steel and Trahin went 2-3-4-5 in the 200-yard individual medley, with Happ taking second in 1:56.65, followed by Opell (1:58.00), Steel (1:58.43) and Trahin (2:01.24).
In the final event of the day, Zoricic, Knight, Shedron and Honsa posted a second-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:04.92 the second-fastest time by the Hoosiers this season.
The Hoosiers return to action on Jan. 29 at Louisville in a dual meet with the Cardinals. The meet is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. ET.
