IOWA CITY, Iowa -
With fourth-place finishes in the 200 medley relay and 800 free relay, the Indiana men's swimming and diving team sits in third place after day one of the Big Ten Men's Swimming and Diving Championships at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center in Iowa City, Iowa.
A pair of relay victories has Michigan in the lead with 80 points. The Wolverines are followed by Ohio State (66), Indiana (60), Minnesota (54) and Wisconsin (54).
In the 3-meter springboard exhibition event, the Hoosier team of Darian Schmidt and Mick Dell'Orco placed first with a tally of 326.49, including an event-best score of 74.70 on their fourth dive.
The day ended with the 800 free relay with Schmuhl, Jim Barbiere, John Schnittker and Tyler Shedron racing to a time of 6:25.85, good for fourth place. That is the second-fastest time in school history and an NCAA B cut.
The teams are back in the pool tomorrow at noon ET with prelims in the 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 50 freestyle and 1-meter diving. The finals session will get underway at 7:30 p.m. ET.
