    AUSTIN, Texas - In one of the toughest dual meets on the books this college season, the Indiana men's swimming and diving team dropped both matches, falling to No. 5 Texas 185-115, and to No. 2 Michigan, 223-77.

    Ryan Downey was the top Hoosier finisher in the 1,000 freestyle, posting a time of 9:31.75. Nicholas Schwab was 10th in 9:38.32, with Grayson Smith 11th (9:50.27).

    In the 200 medley relay, Eric Ress, Cody Miller, Steve Schmuhl and Daniel Kanorr posted a third-place finish with a time of 1:29.71. Jim Barbiere was sixth in the 200 freestyle (1:38.45), while Matt Gerth was eighth (1:40.93).

    James Wells was the top Hoosier in the 100 backstroke, placing second (48.37), while Ress was fourth (48.60). In the 100 breaststroke Miller was second, clocking an NCAA B cut of 55.26. Mike Hurley placed eighth (57.63) and Tanner Kurz ninth (57.68).

    In the 200 butterfly, it was Schmuhl fourth (1:47.98/NCAA B Cut) and Austin Saunders ninth (1:56.78). Kanorr was the top Hoosier with a fourth-place finish in the 50 freestyle (20.55). Continuing the sprint races, Barbiere was fifth in the 100 free (45.63), with Kanorr ninth (46.04) and Gerth 10th (46.77).

    Ress and Schmuhl went 2-3 in the 200 backstroke, with Ress posting a time of 1:45.66 (NCAA B Cut) and Schmuhl touching the wall in 1:46.12 (NCAA B Cut).

     

     

    Miller added another second-place finish, this one coming in the 200 breaststroke (1:58.96), while Ian Boggs was seventh (2:06.77). Barbiere finished fourth in the 500 freestyle (4:26.54), while Downey finished 10th (4:40.68).

    Wells placed seventh in the 100 butterfly (50.92), followed by Kurz in eighth (51.03) and Saunders ninth (51.70). Schmuhl raced to a second-place finish in the 400 individual medley (3:54.50), while Ress was seventh (4:00.49).

    In the diving well, Casey Johnson was third on the 3-meter springboard (343.60), with Darian Schmidt fifth (313.85) and Mick Dell'Orco sixth (312.70). On the 1-meter board Schmidt was fourth (318.45), Dell'Orco sixth (297.45) and Johnson seventh (289.05).

    In the final swimming event of the day, Barbiere, Kanorr, Wells and Miller finished seventh in the 400 freestyle relay, touching the wall in 3:04.64.
