Carlton Named Diver of the Week for the Second Time This Season
January 7, 2001
Bloomington, Ind.-- For the second time this season, Indiana sophomore diver Marc Carlton was honored by the Big Ten Conference on Monday as the Diver of the Week for the week of Dec. 31-Jan. 6 for his accomplishments at the Indiana Winter Invitational and Springboard Dive-Off on Jan. 4-6.
"This honor is well-deserved. He has improved so much from his freshman season," said Head Diving Coach Dr. Jeff Huber. "He is much further along than I thought he would be. Being honored twice is great and it shows his dedication."
Carlton led the Hoosier men at the Invite by sweeping both of the one-meter springboard events on Friday and all three of Saturday's three-meter events including the Dive-Off. His scores of 292.40 and 306.35 were enough to sweep Friday's events while his scores of 559.90 and 562.65 were enough in the three-meter competitions. His score of 569.65 also won him the Indiana Springboard Dive-Off crown.
"It is a great honor," said Carlton. "I have been working extremely hard this season to get better and I have really taken off. It is great to see that all the hard work that I have put in has finally begun to pay off."
Carlton leads the Hoosier men into competition on Friday when they travel to Purdue to compete in preparation for the NCAA Zone Diving Championship hosted by Purdue. The team returns to Bloomington to take on Ohio State on Saturday at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center at 1 p.m.
