Big Ten Honors Roberts for Fourth Time This Season
Jan. 30, 2007
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana junior Taylor Roberts has been named the Big Ten Diver of the Week after a dominant effort against No. 18 Purdue, the league office announced Tuesday, Jan. 30.
The 11th-ranked Hoosiers dropped a close decision to the Boilermakers in West Lafayette, Ind., on Jan. 27, falling 125-118. It was Indiana's first loss to Purdue since the 2001 campaign.
Roberts ran away with the only event he entered, turning in a score of 390.98 to win the three-meter by more than 40 points. The Aurora, Colo., native's score was the seventh-best in program history in the event.
"We're very pleased," Indiana diving coach Dr. Jeff Huber said. "He keeps looking better and better, and we're right on target. He's real close to absolutely demolishing other guys, and that's what it's going to take."
The award is the league-best fourth of the season for Roberts, who also claimed the weekly honor on Oct. 31, Nov. 21 and Jan. 16. Roberts also earned the distinction as a freshman on Dec. 7, 2004.
Indiana (4-4-1, 1-2-1 Big Ten) is idle until the Big Ten Championships, which will take place in Columbus, Ohio, from Feb. 15-17.
