INDIANA CLOSES DUAL MEET SEASON WITH VICTORY

For the second time in the last three meets, the Indiana Hoosiers knocked off a top 25 team as the defeated the Purdue Boilermakers 129-114. As always, the meet came down to the final event with the Hoosiers winning the 400 free relay. Throughout the meet, the Hoosiers set three pool records at Lambert Pool in West Lafayette.

Both relay teams set records as did Ken Ackermann in the 200 back. The record-setting 400 medley relay time was 3:20.46. In the 400 free, Indiana swam it in 3:02.48, and Ackermann's record time was 1:47.27.

Although Indiana won six of the 13 events, they tallied numerous second and third place finishes to stay in the meet. Other winners for Indiana included Brian Stryker and Jason Graves. Stryker was victorious in the 50 free and Graves won both diving events.

Head coach Kris Kirchner was very happy with his team's performance. "It came down to the last event (400 free relay) and we did what we had to do. It was a typical Purdue-Indiana meet. It was a dogfight. It was a great meet and we set three pool records in their pool," said Kirchner.

Indiana finishes the dual meet season with a 9-3 overall mark and 3-1 Big Ten record. It's the most wins for Indiana since 1995 when they went 9-5 and finished fourth at the Big Ten Championships.

Indiana is off until the last weekend of February when they host the 1999 Big Ten Championships.
