Feb. 12, 2008
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - - For the second time this season, the Indiana men's swimming and diving program has swept the Big Ten weekly honors with swimmer Todd Patrick and diver Taylor Roberts named the Big Ten Swimmer of the Week and Big Ten Diver of the Week, respectively, the league office announced Tuesday.
Patrick picked up three first-place finishes in the Hoosiers' 143-100 win over rival Purdue on Saturday. The senior posted an NCAA B time in the 200-yard individual medley, taking first in 1:47.89. In the 100-yard freestyle, Patrick recorded his second win, touching the wall in 44.60. As a part of the 400-yard medley relay, Patrick helped the Hoosier team to an NCAA B standard of 3:15.62 for the victory.
This is Patrick's second honor this season after earning the award for his performance in a dual meet victory at Northwestern in October. Overall he has been named the Big Ten Swimmer of the Week four times in his career.
Also against Purdue, Roberts provided first-place points in the 3-meter springboard with an NCAA Zone qualifying score of 381.60. This is the sixth time in his career he has been honored by the Big Ten.
The Hoosiers are off until the Big Ten Championships, Feb. 28-March 1 in Ann Arbor, Mich. Indiana is looking to improve upon last year's fourth-place finish after claiming the conference title in 2006.
