Bloomington, Ind. - The Indiana men's swimming team hosted the Indiana Open on Saturday afternoon. The meet marked the team's last chance to earn NCAA qualifying times. The Hoosiers earned four NCAA provisional times on the day.

"It was a time trial, and we didn't get any of the times we were looking for," Indiana head coach Ray Looze said. "We came close. The 200 medley time would have been good enough for 12th, but you have to do it legally and we didn't."

The 50 freestyle saw Indiana get two guys NCAA 'B' cuts. Juniors Mike Payne and Claes Andersson both posted provisional times. Payne's time of 20.32 was a career best and ranks 10th on the Hoosiers' all-time 50 free list. Andersson went 20.08 for his 50. In the preliminaries of the Big Ten Championships, Andersson went 19.99.

Senior David Schulze posted a provisional NCAA cut time with a season best 2:00.10 in the 200 breaststroke. He went four tenths of a second faster than he did at the Big Ten Championships last weekend.

The Hoosiers 200 free relay also posted a NCAA provisional time. The team of juniors Dale Ramsey, Andersson and Payne along with sophomore Nicolas Burgess went 1:20.25. The season best time for the team came at the Big Ten Championships last weekend when it went 1:20.02.

The Hoosiers' 200 medley relay was incredibly close to earning a provisional time of 1:27.89, but was disqualified. It was ruled the Schulze, swimming the second leg, jumped early. The time would have ranked IU 12th in the nation this season.

Indiana will next be in action at the NCAA Championships, March 27-29 in Austin, Texas. The preliminary rounds start at 12:00 p.m., while the finals are slated for 7:00 p.m.
