    Hoosiers dominate field at Diving Zone's

    Collier/Hirai win on day one

    Oxford, OH--Indiana's divers travelled to Oxford, Ohio with hopes of earning a berth in the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. Two of these athletes accomplished their goals Friday night while several others will have to wait it out.

    Sophomore Mike Collier won the 3-meter Springboard competition and earned an automatic berth with a score of 547.70. He finished 7.05 points ahead of the 2nd place finisher Mike McIntyre of Ohio State. Tom Davidson earned a provisional spot with his 3rd place finish. Jon Regetti, who finished in 7th with a score of 442.55, also has an outside shot at making the Championship meet.

    In the women's 1-meter Springboard competion, Kimiko Hirai earned her ticket to the Championships with a winning score of 400.00. She finished over 10 points ahead of the 2nd place diver, Angie Trostel of Cincinnati. The Hoosiers Erin Quinn was a provisional qualifier with a score of 375.95, good for a 5th place finish.

    The Hoosiers are back in action tommorow when the men compete in the 1-meter Springboard competition and the women will dive off the 3-meter Springboard. The men will also compete in the Platform competition.
