Indiana Boasts 30 Hoosiers on 2009 Winter Academic All-Big Ten Team

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana University posted 30 student-athletes on the 2009 Winter Academic All-Big Ten ranging from men's and women's basketball, men's and women's swimming and diving and wrestling.
Student-athletes must be letterwinners in at least their second academic year at their institution and career a grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better to be eligible for the honor. A total of 519 student-athletes were recognized by the Big Ten across the seven winter sports.
"We are very excited to honor our students who demonstrate the high standards that are set for Indiana student-athletes," Kimya Massey, IU Assistant Director of Athletics for Academic Services, said. "Our student-athletes continue to show their high level of dedication both in and out of the classroom. We are extremely proud of their accomplishments as they represent Indiana University and the Big Ten Conference."
IU's women's swimming and diving team led the way for the Hoosiers as it held 12 spots on all-academic list, including NCAA Diving Champion Christina Loukas. She was the NCAA Diver of the Year after concluding her collegiate career finishing first on the three-meter, second on the one-meter and 11th on the platform. Indiana's men's and women's basketball teams combined for seven honorees, including Second Team All-Big Ten selection Whitney Thomas. The men's swimming and diving team had seven student-athletes honored, while wrestling boasted four student-athletes earning academic accolades.
