Hoosiers Compete at 2004 Speedo American Cup

Minneapolis, Minn.--Several Hoosiers competed in the 2004 Speedo American Cup Diving meet April 9-11 at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis, Minn.
Former Bloomington South standout Lindsay Weigle had a solid performance on the women's platform, placing 10th with 613.86 points. Weigle also competed in the three-meter springboard event where she placed 21st with 212.01 points.
Senior Marc Carlton competed in both the three-meter and platform events where he placed 6th and 13th respectively. Carlton finished with 934.05 points in the three-meter and 468.90 points on platform.
Former Hoosier and 2000 Olympian Sara Hildebrand had a strong showing at the meet, capturing the gold in the women's platform event with 893.85 points. In the three-meter competition, Hildebrand placed third with 752.82 points.
Rounding out the individual events for Indiana was senior Cassandra Cardinell who placed 14th in the women's three-meter event with 433.62 points and sophomore Brian Mariano who placed 23rd in the men's three-meter event with 280.35 points.
The Hoosiers also had strong performances in the synchronized diving events. The duo of Cardinell and Hildebrand took first place with 268.08 points in the three-meter synchro finals and second in the platform synchro finals with 283.11 points.
For the men, the duo of Carlton and Mariano placed 6th in the three-meter synchro finals with 266.55 points. Metzler and junior Ryan Fagan finished in seventh place with 255.36 points.
Hildebrand and Cardinell will go on to compete at the FINA/USA Diving Grand Prix on May 6-9 in Woodlands, Texas. The Olympic Team trials are set for June 7-13 in St. Peters, Missouri.
