Indiana Diving Signs Mick Dell'Orco for 2009-10 Season
April 21, 2009
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana University head diving coach Dr. Jeff Huber announced today that St. Louis, Mo. native Mick Dell'Orco will join the IU diving program beginning with the 2009-10 season.
Dell'Orco graduates from St. Louis University High School this spring after finishing fifth on the one-meter at the Missouri State High School Athletic Association (MSHSAA) state meet in 2007 and 2008. He is a four-time MSHSAA state meet qualifier and was an all-state honoree each of his four seasons with the Junior Billikens.
"I am excited to be working with Mick next season," Huber said. "He is a very talented and hard-working athlete who has a great future ahead of him in the sport of diving. Besides being a great athlete, he is a great person and will add leadership and character to our team."
His performance on the springboard helped lead SLUH to a fifth-place finish at the MSHSAA meet in 2008, the best finish over the last five years for the Junior Billikens. Dell'Orco also helped lead the team to four consecutive Metro Catholic Conference swimming and diving championships. For his efforts in the pool, Dell'Orco was named to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch All-Metro swimming and diving team as a junior and senior.
Out of the water, Dell'Orco earned second academic honors as a junior and senior and represented the President of SLUH as a President's Ambassador, which involved organizing and speaking at school-sponsored events. He is also a member of the "Blue Crew," a select group of senior students who lead cheers at school sporting events to help promote school spirit and provide support.
