Cozad Makes World Championship Team
May 20, 2013
Amy Cozad, who completed her eligibility at Indiana this past spring, finished second in the women's 10-meter platform competition Sunday at the USA Diving World Championship Trials to earn a spot at this summer's World Championships in Barcelona, Spain.
Cozad turned in a personal best 390.50 in the finals and finished with a score of 1032.70. She scored no lower than 72 points on any dive and scored more than 80 points on her final two dives, closing out her list with 82.50 points on her back 3 1/2 tuck and 81.60 points on an inward 3 ½ tuck.
"It felt good. I think the most important part was that (coach Jeff) Huber believed in me and that made me believe in myself," Cozad said. "I knew I was ready. We prepared for this, and I was ready to go. I knew what I had to do to do well here, and I got it done. I knew exactly what I wanted to do."
Diving events will take place July 20-31 in Barcelona. Women's 10-meter preliminaries are on July 24, with the final on July 25.
In other action, senior Conor Murphy and recent graduate Casey Johnson placed fourth in the synchronized platform competition (730.23), while senior Darian Schmidt was seventh in the 3-meter springboard final (1111.85). With their finish, Murphy and Johnson have been named to the 2013 World University Games team. They will join fellow Hoosier Jim Barbiere who was named to the USA Swimming squad last year.
