    Hesen Finishes Fourth in 100 Back at Olympic Trials

    OMAHA, Neb. - Indiana graduate and 2008 NCAA Champion Ben Hesen came up just short in his Olympic bid, finishing fourth in the 100-meter backstroke on day three of the USA Swimming Olympic Trials in Omaha, Neb.

    In one of the fastest 100-meter backstroke finals in Olympic Trials history, Hesen touched the wall fourth in 53.03. Fellow Big Ten alum Matt Grevers (Northwestern) won the race with the second-fastest time in history at 52.08. Nick Thoman earned the other U.S. Olympic spot with a time of 52.86, which also ranks among the all-time top times.

    Junior Lindsay Vrooman placed 31st in the women's 200 freestyle, posting a time of 2:01.30, while incoming freshman Haley Lips was 35th (2:01.63).

    Allysa Vavra placed 28th in the 200-meter individual medley, clocking in at a time of 2:17.47.

    Sophomore Steve Schmuhl was disqualified in his heat of the 200-meter butterfly for a non-simultaneous touch. Recent graduate Kim Tracey was also hit with a disqualification in the 200-meter individual medley.
