Hoosiers Wrap Stay at Phillips 66 US Swimming Nationals
June 29, 2013
INDIANAPOLIS - Another record-setting swim from senior Lindsay Vrooman highlighted the final day of action for Indiana University swimmers at the Phillips 66 US Nationals at the IU Natatorium/IUPUI Sports Complex in Indianapolis.
Vrooman wrapped up her successful meet by chopping more than eight seconds off the school record in the 1,500-meter freestyle, posting a time of 16:32.14 to finish 11th. That betters the mark of 16:40.94 set by Nikki White in 2009.
In the 200-meter individual medley, senior Cody Miller placed 22nd in prelims with a time of 2:04.11 and was followed by teammate junior Steve Schmuhl who was 23rd in 2:04.13. Both elected not to swim the bonus final in the evening.
With their performances at this meet, Miller and senior backstroker James Wells have earned spots on the U.S. team for the 2013 World University Games next month in Russia. They will be joined in Russia by teammate Eric Ress, who will represent France at the competition.
