    Swim and Dive Earn Scholar All-America Honors

    BLOOMINGTON, Indiana - A total of 10 Indiana University swimmers and divers were recently awarded College Swimming Coaches Association of America Scholar All-America honors.

    The Scholar All-America award is presented to swimmers and divers who have achieved a GPA of 3.5 or higher and qualified to compete at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.

    Three men and four women earned first-team honors, while three men were named to the honorable mention list. Freshman Max Irwin and seniors Eric Ress and James Wells represented the men on the first team, while junior Allie Day, senior Kate Hillman, senior Brenna MacLean and sophomore Brooklynn Snodgrass earned first-team honors for the women.

    Irwin, Ress and Wells all competed at the NCAA Championships, led by a second-place finish for Ress in the 200 backstroke. Ress also earned All-America honors in the 200 individual medley, 400 medley relay and 800 freestyle relay.

    At his first NCAA meet, Irwin took home All-America honors in the 400 medley relay and 800 freestyle relay, while Wells was an All-American in the 400 medley relay and 800 freestyle relay.

    Snodgrass led the way for the women, becoming just the second female IU swimmer to win a national title when she claimed the 200 backstroke in a time of 1:50.52. Snodgrass also earned All-America honors in the 400 medley relay, 200 medley relay and 100 backstroke, earning Big Ten Swimmer of the Year honors.

     

     

    MacLean was an All-American in the 200 butterfly, while Kate Hillman recorded a 10th-place finish on the platform at the NCAA meet for All-America accolades. Day represented the Hoosiers in the 100 back and 200 back.

    Junior George Andrews, sophomore Andrew Hull and senior Conor Murphy were named to the honorable mention team. All three qualified for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships, with Murphy winning the Big Ten title on the platform.

    In addition to the individual accolades, both the men and women were honored as Scholar All-America Teams.
