Wohrley Posts Top-8 Finish on Day 2 of USA Swimming Nationals

IRVINE, Calif. - Sophomore Taylor Wohrley advanced to her first senior national championship final, finishing seventh in the 100-meter backstroke on day two of the 2010 ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships in Irvine, Calif.
Wohrley posted a time of 1:02.56 in the championship final, bettering her prelim mark of 1:01.95. She was just 3/100ths of a second from cracking the all-time IU top five in the event. In the bonus final, senior Ashley Jones moved up six spots from her 24th-place qualifying time of 1:03.45 to finish 18th in 1:02.56.
In the men's race, 2008 NCAA Champion and Hoosier All-American Ben Hesen finished sixth with a time of 55.01,slightly off his morning prelim mark of 54.96. Former Hoosier John Kevin Koehler, who swims for the Dayton Raiders, took 63rd in 58.24.
Hoosier All-American Todd Patrick, who now swims for North Baltimore Aquatic Club, took sixth in the 200-meter butterfly in a time of 1:58.13. Junior Tyler Shedron was 35th in 2:03.24, with senior Cody Weik 39th in 2:03.69.
Senior Titus Knight placed 42nd in the 200-meter freestyle prelims with a time of 1:52.88. Sophomore Jim Barbiere touched the wall in 1:53.43, good for 57th, while Shedron was 56th in 1:53.42. Koehler was 27th in a time of 1:51.52.
Junior Brittany Strumbel was the top Hoosier finisher in the women's 200-meter freestyle, coming home in 2:02.30 to place 38th. Wohrley was 50th in 2:02.90, while junior Nikki White was right behind in 51st with a time of 2:02.94.
