PALO ALTO, Calif. -
Senior Allysa Vavra finished fourth in the 400-meter individual medley and junior Ashley Specht won her consolation final of the 100-meter breaststroke on day 3 of the ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships at the Stanford University Avery Aquatic Center in Palo Alto Calif.
Vavra is the first current Hoosier to qualify for a championship final at this meet as she took fourth in the 400-meter individual medley with a time of 4:43.98. That is the second-fastest time in school history, just behind her time of 4:42.25 set in the morning prelims. Both are Olympic Trials qualifying cuts. Kim Tracey finished 63rd with a prelims time of 4:55.64, also a Trials cut.
Specht won the C final of the 100-meter breaststroke and finished 21st overall with a school-record time of 1:09.33. That has earned her a spot at next year's Olympic Trials. Her prelim time of 1:10.64 is the second fastest on record for a Hoosier. Sophomore Brittney Phelan finished her prelim heat in 1:13.77.
Junior Daniel Kanorr hit his Trials mark in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 23.19, placing him 36th overall. Former Hoosier All-American Ben Hesen placed 18th in the 100-meter butterfly in 54.29.
