Four Hoosiers Named to U.S. Swimming National Team

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Based on their performances at the ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships last week, Presley Bard (Napa, Calif./Napa), Ashley Jones (Joliet, Ill./Minooka Community), T.P. Patrick (Chesterfield, Mo./Marquette) and Ben Hesen (Jeffersonville, Ind./Jeffersonville) have been named to the U.S. National Team which will compete at the Japan International Grand Prix, Aug. 21-24 in Chiba, Japan.
Hesen was named to the squad after a third-place finish in the 100-meter backstroke. His time of 54.40 is the ninth-fastest in the world this year. Patrick joins him on the men's side after touching the wall in sixth in the 200-meter individual medley, posting a mark of 2:02.95.
Both Jones and Bard were top-10 finishers in the 200-meter backstroke. Jones placed seventh overall (2:12.83), while Bard was ninth (2:14.63).
The group will leave for Japan on Aug. 16 and train Aug. 17-20 before competition beings on Aug. 21.
