Jones Eighth in 200 Back on Day 4 of USA Swimming Nationals

IRVINE, Calif. - Three Indiana University swimmers made it back to the evening session in the women's 200-meter backstroke, led by senior Ashley Jones' appearance in the championship final, on day four of the 2010 ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships in Irvine, Calif.
Jones finished the championship final in 2:15.87. Earlier in the day she was eighth in the prelims with a time of 2:13.12, while sophomore Taylor Wohrley was 11th in 2:14.30 and junior Allysa Vavra 22nd in 2:16.39. Junior Kim Tracey rounded out the IU contingent in the event with a time of 2:23.17 (114th). In the consolation final Wohrley finished sixth in the heat and 14th overall with a time of 2:14.28. Vavra finished third in the bonus final (19th overall) with a time of 2:15.62.
In the men's 200-meter individual medley, former Hoosier Todd Patrick finished sixth in a time of 2:00.79. Patrick went 2:00.91 in the morning prelims, good four fourth. IU graduate Aaron Opell was 37th in 2:05.37, while sophomore Sam Trahin was 62nd in 2:06.89.
Junior Nikki White was 21st in the prelims of the 800 freestyle with her time of 8:48.59. The finals of the event will be contested on Saturday. Former Hoosier John Kevin Koehler was 22nd in the men's 1,500 freestyle in 15:40.79, while junior Ryan Hinshaw was 37th in 15:49.17. The finals of the 1500 free will also take place on Saturday.
In the men's 100-meter freestyle, sophomore Jim Barbiere clocked a time of 52.29 (96th), while senior Titus Knight finished in 52.49 (103rd). Brittany Barwegen swam the 200-meter freestyle prelims, finishing 43rd in a time of 2:16.81.
