Another Record Falls on Day 3 of USA Swimming Nationals

IRVINE, Calif. - Indiana University sophomore swimmer Gia Dalesandro set a new IU record in the 100 butterfly and posted a top-eight finish on day three of the Phillips 66 USA Swimming National Championships in Irvine, California.
Dalesandro posted a time of 59.35 in her championship final swim, just off her prelim time of 58.99 which set a new IU long course meters record. Sophomore Olivia Barker finished 65th in the 100 fly (1:01.82) as well as 53rd in the 400 individual medley (4:59.58). Senior Steve Schmuhl was 22nd in the 400 IM (4:23.35).
Freshman Blake Pieroni took seventh in the 18-and-under C final with a time of 55.06, chopping nearly 3/10ths of a second off his prelim swim of 55.31. Sophomore Max Irwin was 63rd in the field with a 55.77.
Former Hoosier James Wells closed out the night with a seventh-place finish in the 50-meter backstroke, coming in at 25.55. That was 3/100ths of a second faster than his morning swim of 25.58. Sophomore Bob Glover took fifth in the consolation final and 13th overall with a 26.08. On the women's side, Allie Day clocked a 30.33, good for 52nd.
Day four of swimming includes Hoosiers in the 400 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke.
