    Fesenko Closes World University Games With Silver in 1,500 Freestyle

    BANGKOK, Thailand - Former Indiana swimming standout Sergiy Fesenko (Kiev, Ukraine) closed out the swimming portion of the 2007 World University Games with a silver medal in the 1,500-meter freestyle.

    Fesenko finished in a time of 15:10.81. American Chad LaTourette took home gold with a Games-record mark of 15:00.26. Michael Klueh nabbed the bronze (15:13.04).

    It was Fesenko's third top-five finish in as many events, winning the bronze in the 800-meter freestyle and finishing fifth in the 400 free earlier in the week.

    In diving action, former Hoosier and 2004 Olympian Cassandra Cardinell qualified for the finals in the platform event, which will take place on Friday.

    The 2007 World University Games run Aug. 8-18 with athletes from more than 200 countries competing. The event is held every two years during the winter and summer.
