BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana University freshmen swimmers Blake Pieroni and Cody Taylor have been selected to represent the United States at the 2014 Junior Pan Pacific Championships, Aug. 27-31 in Kihei, Hawaii on the island of Maui.

Pieroni qualified thanks to his performances in the 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle at the USA Swimming National Championships last week. Pieroni was the 18-and-under national champion in the 100-meter free after clocking a time of 49.69, a new IU record. He placed second in the 18-and-under final of the 200 freestyle, also setting a new school record with a time of 1:49.26.

Taylor makes the team by way of his 18-and-under national title in the 200-meter breaststroke at last week's championships. Taylor finished ninth overall in the field and won the consolation final with a time of 2:12.73.

While Pieroni (100/200 freestyle) and Taylor (200 breaststroke) qualified in those specific events, they will have the opportunity to swim any event at the meet.

The Junior Pan Pacific Championships features some of the world's top youth swimmers from the USA, Japan, Canada, Brazil, New Zealand and Australia.
