    Lenton Claims 50-Meter Title at Australian Short Course Championships

    HOBART, Australia - Matt Lenton, a member of Indiana University's men's swimming and diving team, won the 50-meter freestyle championship at the Telstra Australian Short Course Championships at Tattersall's Hobart Aquatic Centre on Aug. 26.

    Lenton posted a time of 22.14 seconds in the 50 SCM free, touching out Jonathan Newton, who stopped the clock in 22.23. Lenton's time in the eighth-fastest in the 50 SCM free in IU history.

    Lenton, a native of Perth, Australia, will be a sophomore for the Hoosiers this season. Indiana kicks off the 2006-07 slate with its annual Cream versus Crimson meet on Sep. 29.

    The Telstra Australian Short Course Championships continue through Monday, Aug. 28.
