Oct. 31, 2011
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana University head swimming coach Ray Looze has been selected to serve on the Team USA men's coaching staff for the Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool, Dec. 16-17 at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center in Atlanta, Ga.
"It is an honor to be included on the Team USA coaching staff," Looze said. "It is always a great thrill to represent your country and I am committed to helping Team USA come out victorious in Atlanta."
This is the fifth edition of the Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool. In 2011 it will pit swimmers from the United States against a European all-star team. Each team will send 22 female and 22 male competitors to take part in the short-course meter event.
The competition will have 15 men's and 15 women's events, which will include 13 individual races and two relays for each gender. A running score will be kept combining the points earned by both women and men. The winning team will be the team with the most combined team points at the end of the competition. As there are 236 points available in the 30 total events, the first team to 1 19 points will be the winner.
The men's squad will be led by head coach David Marsh, with Looze, University of Michigan's Mike Bottom and Ohio State's Bill Wadley serving as assistant coaches. The women will be led by head coach Jack Bauerle and assistant coaches Kim Bracken (Texas), Chris Davis (SwimAtlanta) and Lea Maurer (Stanford). Members of the Team USA squad will be announced at a later date.
The United States is 4-0 overall in this meet, with the first three wins coming against Australia.
