Sophomore Marc Carlton Honored by Big Ten as Diver of the Week
November 6, 2001
Bloomington, Ind.-- Indiana University sophomore diver Marc Carlton was honored by the Big Ten Conference on Wednesday as the Big Ten Diver of the Week for the week of Oct. 27 - Nov. 2.
"This honor is well-deserved. He has improved so much from his freshman season," said Head Diving Coach Dr. Jeff Huber. "He is much further along than I thought he would be. Setting a personal best and doing as well as Marc did against Michigan is a great accomplishment for him and this shows that his performance was outstanding."
Carlton earned a lifetime best score in the one-meter springboard at the Big Ten seasion-opening dual meet at the University of Michigan. He placed second with a score of 319.95. His performance on the three-meter was just as impressive as he earned his lifetime second-best on the three-meter springboard with a score of 320.17.
"It is a great honor," said Carlton. "I have been working extremely hard this season to get better and I have really taken off. It is great to see that all the hard work that I have put in has finally begun to pay off."
Carlton also said that although he was honored by the Big Ten he still needs to improve in certain areas.
"I have to learn how to perform better at meets," he said. "I am getting better at it, but I am not quite where I would like to be. Hopefully, by Big Tens I can be where I feel I need to be."
Carlton and the Hoosier divers get back on the diving boards Nov. 16-18 when Indiana hosts the Indiana Invitational. IU will compete against Evansville, Texas A&M and Cincinnati. The meet kicks off at 9 a.m.
