HOOSIER SWIMMERS KICK OFF SEASON WITH VICTORY OVER MIAMI
Indiana started off its season with an easy victory over Miami, OH, 152-90. The Hoosiers won eight out of 13 events. They took firsts in the 100 yard free, 200 yard free, 1000 yard free, 200 yard fly, 200 back, 200 yard IM, 400 yard medley relay, and one-meter diving.
The Hoosiers took the top four spots in the 200 IM with Rob Iglinski winning with a time of 1:53.65. Kyle Goodrich, Tom Davis, and Tom Trent rounded out the top four. The Hoosiers swept the 200 and 1000 freestyle and 200 butterfly. In the 200 free, Nick Arzner won with a time of 1:42.92 and Duke Shin and Mike Richley finished second and third. The 100 free had Ben Hunter finishing first in 9:30.72 and Chris Gage and Robert Chelle. In the 200 fly, Jeff Ostermann won at 1:53.82, and Nick Arzner and Kyle Rusche finished second and third.
Indiana took the top two spots in the 400 yard medley relay, 100 yard freestyle, and 200 yard backstroke. Ken Ackermann, Tom Davis, Jeff Ostermann, and Justin Schnute won the 400 med relay with a time of 3:32.47. In the 100 free, Mike Richley won at :47.56 and Don Gold was second at :47.86. Ken Ackermann won the 200 back at 1:54.44.
In diving, Mike Collier and Ryan Kosanic finished first and second on the one-meter with scores of 318.75 and 312.45, respectively. One the three-meter, Tom Davidson finished second at 309.23 and Collier finished third with a score of 299.78.
Quoting Coach Kirchner: "Tonight's meet was a very successful opening meet. The team was
overwhelmed, but they made adjustments to the lineup and won successfully. We won a lot of
events, it was good for the team."
