November 7, 1998 HOOSIERS SPLIT IN DAY TWO OF DUAL MEET EXTRAVAGANZA
Champaign, Ill. - In the second day of the dual meet extravaganza, the Hoosiers lost in the morning to Drury College of Missouri and defeated Southern Illinois in the evening to even their record at 2-2 on the season.
In the morning meet, Indiana came up short with a 75-73 score. Drury won the final two events, the 200 fly and 800 free relay, to seal the close victory. Indiana started the meet with a first in the 200 medley relay. Ken Ackermann and Tom Davis continued to swim well with firsts in the 200 back and 200 breast, respectively. Senior Mike Collier won the three-meter springboard competition with a score of 331.20.
The second meet of the day was better for the Hoosiers as they defeated Southern Illinois, 87-81. Ackermann, Collier, Joe Trent, and Tom Wanezek all posted wins for Indiana. Ackermann was victorious in the 50 back and Collier had another first on the one-meter as the Hoosiers took the top three places in that event. Ryan Kosanic finished second and Jon Repetti placed third.
Trent, a sophomore, won the 400 IM with a time of 4:03.81 and Wanezek took first in the 100 free at 47.08.
Indiana will close the Dual Meet Extravaganza on Sunday with a double-dual meet with Cincinnati and Iowa. The meet will start at 10 am.
