Bloomington, Ind.-- The Indiana Men's Swimming and Diving team topped off their weekend with a 125-116 win over the University of Cincinnati Bearcats. Today's meet was swum in short course meters in preparation for the 2000 NCAA Championships, which will also be using meters for the first time.
Indiana won only four of 11 swimming events but dominated the meet by showing off their depth. Diving was also a major contributor as the team swept both diving events in the first four places. Tom Daivdson walked away with a win in both the one-meter (321.30) and three-meter events (360.52).
Two Hoosiers found individual record times in the relays today. Ken Ackermann had a record time set in the 400 Medley Relay in the 100 Back( :57.00). Brian Stryker had a record 100 Free time (:51.84) set in the 400 Free Relay. Ackermann later went on to win the 200 Back (2:04.30). Stryker went on to win the 100 Free and placed second in the 50 Free (23.91). Another big winner in the Freestyle events was Don Gold who won the 200 Free (1:54.65) and placed second in the 100 Free (:52.12).
"Cincinnati was very good. They had intentions of beating us today," said Head Coach Kris Kirchner. "Swimming and Diving combined today for a group effort win today."
"Every year we set goals to be one of the best team's in our conference and in the country," said Kirchner. "We set out to improve every week and we are on the right track this year. "
