HOOSIERS HOLD ON TO WIN INVITATIONAL

Indiana cruised to its second straight Indiana Invitational win at the Counsilman/Billingsley Aquatic Center on Sunday. The Hoosiers kept the large lead they had accumulated on Saturday by winning the 200 breaststroke and platform diving competitions.

In the 200 breast, Kyle Goodrich placed first with a time of 2:04.27. Tom Davis, Tom Trent, and Rob Iglinski finished third, fourth, and fifth, respectively. In the 1650 freestyle, Rob Chelle, Chris Gage, and Ben Hunter finished in spots two, three, and four.

On the diving platform, sophomore Tom Davidson won the event giving the Hoosier divers a sweep of the diving events. Davidson won with a score of 770.85. Jason Graves placed second with a score of 721.55 for the Hoosiers. On the one and three-meter, Mike Collier was the winner for Indiana.

Juniors Kyle Goodrich and Chris Gage both had outstanding weekends for Indiana. Goodrich had firsts in the 100 back and 800 free relay, and seconds in the 200 and 400 individual medley. Gage finished first in the 800 free relay and 500 free, and took a fourth in the 200 freestyle.

Indiana will be swimming again December 4-6 at the U.S. Open in Indianapolis. The event will be held at the IU Natatorium. Some of the nation's top swimmers will be at this meet as a warm-up for the World Championships, January 12-18, 1998.
