IU Sends Large Contingent to USA Swimming Nationals

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana University swimming will send 32 swimmers to the 2013 USA Swimming Winter National Championships, December 5-7, at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tenn.
Day one of competition will feature the 200 free relay, 500 free, 200 individual medley, 50 freestyle and 400 medley relay. Day two includes the 200 medley relay 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke and 800 freestyle relay. The meet concludes with the 1,650 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly and 400 free relay.
Prelims each day will begin at 9 a.m. ET, with finals set for 5 p.m. ET. You can follow the action with live results here. Portions of the event will also be broadcast on NBC Universal. Check local listings for times in your area.
Leading the way for the Hoosiers will be national team members senior Lindsay Vrooman, senior Cody Miller and junior Steve Schmuhl. Vrooman is the third seed in the 500 free, seventh seed in the 200 free and third seed in the 1,650 free. Miller enters the meet as top seed in the 200 breaststroke and 200 IM, and second seed in the 100 breaststroke. Schmuhl is the seventh seed in the 200 IM and third seed in the 400 IM.
Other top competitors for Indiana include senior Eric Ress, senior James Wells and sophomore Brooklynn Snodgrass in the backstroke events, along with senior Bronwyn Pasloski (breaststroke), senior Brenna MacLean (butterfly) and sophomore Haley Lips (freestyle).
The meet comes after a long training period for IU, with their last competition coming on Nov. 1 against Tennessee and Kentucky. In the latest College Swimming Coaches Association of America rankings, the Indiana women are No. 14, while the Hoosier men are ranked ninth.
